Marianella, began renting the Mama Simona building 1 1/2 years ago for a 10 year period. It was in poor condition at that time. She has made many improvements since then. This includes new beds and mattresses. Many of the bathrooms have new tile on the floors and walls, including my room #3. She is continuing to upgrade the facility and has tiles to install in more of the bathrooms. I talked with her mother-in-law, who was visiting from Lima, at breakfast my first morning there. I mentioned that there were no hangers on the walls of my room. She said to tell Marianella. I did and, that day while I was out, she had a wood 4 dowel hanger unit put on the wall next to my bed. I decided to drop my reservation in Urubamba and stay an additional 2 days at Mama Simona. Someone had reserved room 3 for one of those nights. I was moved to the multiple bunkbed room on the first floor. I think it was #7. I noticed that the paint was peeling in the shower entry. I mentioned it to Marianella, as well to a leak in the bathroom sink drain. When I returned in the afternoon, the peeling paint had been scraped and Marianella told me that she was not going to be renting the room again until both problems were fixed. She said that possibly a steam extractor could be put in the shower. This shows that if you have a concern, tell her and it will be quickly addressed if possible. The breakfasts were very good. The rooms have no heat but, when I said that I had folded over the heavy bed cover my first night there for more warmth, I was given a second one for my bed. Mama Simona is located on a side street about a 10 minute walk from the main square. It is very quiet there. There are many restaurants in the main square area from which to choose. There are 2 computers on the ground floor for guest use at no charge. Marianella is very committed to the success of Mama Simona. She speaks excellent English.

    Good

Location was good. Not too far from main sights, on a quite street.

Didnt have a twin room. Rooms were cold. Window facing inside terrace. Could be loud. Breakfast is quite basic

    Good

    staff were very helpful.

Had booked double room but when I arrived was told that it was not available & had to stay in a dorm room with bunk bed/no towels/no toiletries/no TV & very cold. when I went to pay well they wanted to charge me for a double room with towels/TV & toiletries. when I asked they gave me a very small discount & didn't charge for the heater. The room had no window no picture on the wall - just 4 white washed walls & when you had a shower the bathroom stank of mold! I checked out Eco backpackers & I should have stayed there!

    Superb

Very friendly staff, excellent value for money. Nice beds. Free PC and wi-fi.

No in-room heating, but we knew it already when we booked. For a small additional fee, you can get electric heating in your room. In general however this hostel is highly raccomended.

Extremely helpful, nice and very friendly young staff (speaking English!); Fantastic location - walking distance to the city center and all major attractions (supermarkets, restaurants, local market); Clean and cozy room with cable-tv; Tea and coffee available in the lobby all day; This was the best hotel in Peru we have stayed in! Would recommend it to anyone!

It was the best hostel so far in our trip to Peru.. The staff, room, bed, cleaning, breakfast, decoration, everything was great! We are going back to Cuzco this week and are definitely staying there!

    Fabulous

Good location, only a short walk to the main square. Awesome staff that are very helpful. Good breakfast with a cheap option for the addition of scrambled eggs. We have re-booked for another two nights after our Salkantay Trek and Machu Picchu. They happily kept our bags for us for 4 days.

A little cold throughout the building with no heating anywhere. You can hire a heater for your room for a fee.

Marianella is great, the hostel is very good value, right next to the market, breakfast was very nice, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. Lots of friendly and interesting fellow travelers to meet.

Cusco is cold in July and we were all a bit chilly.

    Fabulous

The staff were great: they put heaters in our room, they printed and then scanned forms I had to sign for work, they printed our boarding passes, etc etc.

The building itself is a bit oddly designed.

    Superb

The rooms were exceptionally clean compared to any other hostel we've stayed at. They had clean white sheets and towels, new duvets and comfy beds and lockers(just like in the photos). We ended up staying a couple of nights in a dorm with a bathroom as a double with en-suite wasn't available. We then moved into a double for the other 4 nights and the extra cost was definitely worth it- the mattress didn't have the plastic cover on, we had cable TV and a small sitting area with an arm chair. Breakfast is basic but good- bread, jam, juice, tea and coffee. Kitchen was small but again clean and reasonably well equipped. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They even bought cakes and biscuits on one occasion which they left out for us to help ourselves too. They also let us move into a room early when our night bus turned up unexpectedly early 4:30am (grrr!) and didn't charge us any extra.

No complaints- only slight annoyance was WIFI was unreliable- though we think this may have been due to which staff were on and how many things they were downloading/watching on You Tube ;-)

Great staff and really cute place! Very clean and a nice getaway from horror hostels! (Reviewing a private room). The location was good, but was like a 10 minute walk (not a pleasant one with the rain) to the major plaza.
